What is the process like?
The thing I really try to impress upon my couples is that I want you to enjoy the process. I certainly don’t want to contribute to the hassles and pressures of wedding planning.! First, we need to confirm the date is available. I will then send you "an agreement" to review and return with a deposit. Once received your date is RESERVED!. I'll provide you with ceremonies, readings, poems etc from my library. You decide to pick from one of the completed ceremonies, cut and paste to make one special to you, or ask me to write one for you..
Where can we have our wedding?
Outdoors, in a chapel, a hall, a restaurant, a private home, a park, beside the lake, living room, it is entirely up to you!
We are not religious. Will you work with us?
Absolutely the ceremony can be anything you want it to be.
Can we include rituals from our culture?
Definitely, include traditions and rituals that are important to you. Be it a theme, prayer or ritual, if it will make the ceremony special, by all means include it.
Do you do any wedding planning? I am not a wedding planner or coordinator—although I work with many qualified professionals in this field—I am happy to assist with certain wedding planning aspects for my clients. Particularly for people who are planning weddings from another city (or country, in some cases!),. Working together, we will figure out how to make that happen.
Can we write our own vows?
Absolutely! Writing your own vows makes your ceremony even more personal. If you prefer to use pre-written vows, I have ceremonies, readings, poems etc. for you to choose from or mix and match. If you want guidance, I am here to help you.
Can we include our children in the ceremony?
Absolutely. We encourage you to have the children participate as much as they can.
Do you require premarital counseling?
Will you facilitate our rehearsal?
Sure! A rehearsal helps the wedding party and family and friends get over any jitters or nervousness they may have about their ceremony participation. Organization, direction and laughter all rolled into a rehearsal lasting approximately 30 – 60 minutes.
Do you marry those who have been divorced?
I am happy to perform the ceremony of anyone who has a marriage license.
Do you do "fun" or "unusual" ceremonies (dancing, singing ) ?
If that’s what you want, there's no reason not to have a "fun" ceremony as long as it is still respectful and meaningful.
Can our pets be involved in the ceremony?
Of course, they ARE part of the family .
We would like a special feature like a unity candle or sand vase. Do you have any suggestions?
Yes, I have witnessed and performed a number of special ceremonies and love to have them a part of the wedding because they bring an extra and personal dimension. Consider Rose Ceremonies, Sand Ceremonies. Unity Candles, Rock Ceremonies etc. I have several to choose from.
How are YOU different from other wedding ministers or wedding officiants?
First of all, I love what I do. I allow the couples to become as involved as they want in creating the ceremony. I also don’t do cookie-cutter weddings. Each ceremony is reflective of the couple.
Do you have back up in case something happens on the day of our event? Yes, I do! This summer I fractured my back and missed two weddings. My daughter in law and friend both court commissioners filled in for me. First time in the history of The Door County Wedding Officiant! But when you can't walk, you have to rely on a perfectly capable replacement.
